British man who is accused of ill-treating his wife.

Local police in Orihuela Costa have arrested a British man who is accused of ill-treating his wife. La Verdad reports that the woman called the 112 emergency number as she was scared of entering her home after an argument with her husband who was drunk.A police patrol accompanied the woman, who is reported as being very upset, to the local health centre, and then arrested the 42 year old man and took him to the Civil Guard barracks at Pilar de la Horadada.

Avril Flanagan,stabbed to death in a hotel apartment in Orihuela Costa

Autopsy carried out on the body of 20 year old Avril Flanagan, the Irish girl who was stabbed to death in a hotel apartment in Orihuela Costa last Friday, has revealed that she was stabbed a total of 40 times, Diario Información reports.
The man in custody for the murder is her 24 year old ex boyfriend, named by the Irish Times as Alan Daulby from Liverpool. He’s reported by Información to have told the Guardia Civil that he remembers nothing and also refused to make any statement to the investigating judge.The paper says witnesses and friends questioned by detectives claim the victim was due to fly back to Ireland on the day she died to escape the unwanted attentions of the man now in custody. He is said to have refused to accept their relationship was over, which Ms Flanagan is believed to have ended the week before she was murdered.

Armed British Landlord demands Orihuela Costa rent

64 year old British man has been arrested in the Horizonte urbanisation in Orihuela Costa for allegedly making threats at gunpoint.The man, who has not been named in reports, is alleged to have threatened other Britons, described as a young group, who are renting property from him, demanding that they pay their rent.
Police say the pistol used by the man was a replica which worked with compressed air.The man faces charges of making threats and housebreaking and entry.

highly-organised gang who specialised in night-time burglaries while their victims were sleeping in their beds have been arrested.The Eastern European delinquents were based in a residential complex in Orihuela Costa.
They are known to have committed at least 20 break-ins in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia and Málaga.
The thieves used cars stolen in previous burglaries to carry out future assaults.
A special organised crime squad from the National Police had been tracking the gang since November, 2006 but the criminals, originally from Albania, got wind of the investigation and evacuated their Orihuela Costa home, escaping to Torrequebrada in Málaga.However the officers were able to follow and arrest four members of the gang.
Two of the men from Albania are suspected of carrying out the burglaries and two Spaniards are accused of giving them logistical help and fencing stolen property.
Police suspect there are other members of the gang at large who have not yet been identified.Officers discovered that the burglars had been sending large sums of money to Albania along with other stolen goods by post.
They also found an underground bunker used by the thieves to hide the booty they stole during the break-ins.Following the arrests officers raided two properties in Torrevieja and another in Torrequebrada, seizing a hoard of jewellery, eight designer watches, two televisions, cameras and other objects.

Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo employee kidnapped

Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo employee belonging to one of the Orihuela costa offices, the one located at Cabo Roig, was kept kidnapped by some criminals for more than ten hours. The criminals accosted her as she was on her way to work, and she was taken into a van to San Javier surrounding area where she was hit and covered with a gun in order to get the code of the strongbox. The bank robbers forced her to call her boss to justify her absence from work by saying she was not feeling fine.
The employee was kept kidnapped from seven in the morning until six in the evening when, once free, she went to Los Arcos Hospital in San Javier where she was looked after from minor wounds and anxiety symptoms. Whilst the CAM employee was kept, other members of the gang went to the CAM branch office located at the shopping centre “Playa Marina 2” in Cabo Roig, and though they could not tape the key code to access to the strongbox due to having a time opening security system, they run away with a loot of around 15.000 to 20.000 euros from the cash dispenser.

Stolen in Estepona, Málaga

Uilian D and Florin G from Romania were arrested in Orihuela Costa following a car chase Guardia Civil that they had been unable to detain three men who had committed a street robbery in Los Montesinos.They made off rammed into a chasing police car to try to force it from the road,smashed into a lamppost and took off on foot. local police officers managed to detain one of the men who had resisted arrest.another of the men was caught by a different police patrol, although the third managed to escape and is still believed to be on the run.Their vehicle was found to have been stolen in Estepona, Málaga on October 9.
