Civil Guard officer was arrested by colleagues in Melilla this week as he tried to board the Almería ferry with more than 100 kilos of cannabis hidden in his car. Officers found 128 kilos of cannabis pollen hidden in the rear door panels of the vehicle and he now faces a public health charge.The officer is based in Melilla and although still officially on active duty is reported by Europa Press not to have worked for some time.

Immigrant has been shot dead by the Moroccan police when trying to cross the border fence in the Spanish enclave of Melilla. The police opened fire against a group of 80 Sub-Saharan people who were storming the fence at Iyasenen, and another 14 people were arrested. The dead man died when on his way to hospital, and the rest of the group managed to escape, but none made the crossing into Spain.There was a similar attack from a group of 150 last November.

Arrested six eastern Europeans

The Guardia Civil in Almería Port has arrested six eastern Europeans, all now living in Madrid, on suspicion of drug trafficking, after they arrived on the ‘Santa Cruz de Tenerife’ ferry from Melilla. The officers thought the group was acting nervously, and since their arrest they have between them expelled as many as 630 balls of cling film wrapped hashish from their bodies.
It’s estimated that between them the six were carrying as much as four and a half kilos of the drug in their intestines.
The detentions happened last Monday, but details of the operation have only just been released. The detained men will all appear before Instruction Court 4 in Almería later.
