Linekers Bar was badly burned in what is thought to be a deliberate arson attack last week .The bar is part of a European chain of bars owned by the brother of the ex-soccer player Gary Lineker .According to a local person the fire was suspicious and police are investigating some local hooligans .Others say that the fire could have been caused by a local tramp who used to sleep in the doorway and could possible have dropped a cigarette or match into the building . Sometimes the tramp would even light a fire in the doorway and someone has said that he was seen running away from the scene. The first Linekers Bar opened in 1988 in Tenerife and to get this one ready for Easter it was a case of builders working around the clock .Now part of a huge chain the Fuengirola branch opened in 1994.

Costa del Sol real estate scam 200 Brits affected

Posted On 22:49 1 comments

Several searches of real estate companies were carried out in Fuengirola and Mijas yesterday in connection with an alleged fraud which is thought to have affected hundreds of British citizens. The scam consisted in offering investment in what turned out to be false construction projects on the Costa del Sol, according to La Opinión de Málaga this morning. One Briton affected by this made a complaint to the British courts and they have sent a commission to the Costa to investigate. The British judiciary gave the information to the National Court in Spain, which in turn passed it on to the courts in Fuengirola. The swoops yesterday, in both homes and businesses, were carried out by the Central Operations Unit of the Guardia Civil, and it’s thought that several people will now face charges.Meanwhile in what is described as a parallel operation, the Anti-corruption Prosecutor ordered searches of two ‘little known’ lawyers in Mijas. The investigation is into allegations of money laundering, not thought to be linked to the real estate scam.
The scam consisted of offering investments in real estate projects on the Costa via companies in financial havens, with the value of the supposed projects, many of them rural, multiplied in some cases tenfold. Many of the contacts were made over the Internet. The total amount defrauded as none of the projects came to fruition is some 65 million €. The case is being instructed in court two in Fuengirola and started to be investigated by the authorities two years ago.The Spanish anti-corruption prosecutor has been working closely with the British authorities on the case, and sent several officers to the U.K. to interview nine victims there. Two people were arrested by the Guardia Civil on Tuesday as searches were carried out in businesses and homes in Fuengirola and Mijas on Tuesday and Wednesday. The judge has called 20 people of different nationalities to give evidence in the case as investigations continue.

Spanish police have detained four police officers, including three chiefs responsible for fighting organized crime, on charges of several criminal offences, police said Wednesday. The four worked on the southern Costa del Sol coast, which is known for the presence of numerous international criminal rings. The three chiefs were based in Malaga, Marbella and Fuengirola. The officers were suspected of keeping objects they had confiscated from criminals, making illegal house searches and revealing confidential information to outsiders. One of them was already awaiting trial on charges of helping an Italian drug trafficker flee. An entrepreneur and an interpreter were also held. The affair was "painful and delicate," because it affected the reputation of the national police force, government delegate Hilario Lopez Luna said.
Senior official Antonio Camacho stressed that police themselves had discovered the alleged irregularities in their midst. The National Police internal affairs unit has arrested four National Policemen and two other people in Málaga and Fuengirola. The team moved into several offices of the main provincial police station in Málaga yesterday evening, according to El Mundo. The paper says that several police chiefs have complained about ‘the bad way’ in which the arrests were carried out.All those police arrested are Inspectors or Chief Inspectors belong to the specialist drug and organised crime unit UDYCO, and are accused of corruption and the crime of revealing confidential information obtained during police activity. The previous head of the UDYCO unit on the Costa del Sol, Valentín Bahut, was replaced a year ago after being charged with not following uip on certain crimes linked to a police informer, an Italian based in Benalmádena, Marco Torello Rollero. He finally faced 18 months in prison in that case, with an 11 year ban on holding public office. The Internal Affairs Unit in Málaga has arrested four high ranking police officers assigned to the specialist UDYCO (drugs and organised crime) section of the National Police on the Costa del Sol.The arrests have come after a two year investigation into alleged ‘irregularities’ during the conducting of house searches. One of those arrested is a Chief Inspector, the other three are Inspectors and all have long and distinguished careers in the UDYCO-Costa del Sol.Also arrested in connection with the case are two private individuals, one a civilian interpreter for the police, the other a businessman in Marbella. The detainees allegedly appropriated assets during the carrying out of house searches and also leaked confidential information. In addition, the investigators are trying to establish whether the arrested men were connected to a network trafficking in women for the purpose of prostitution.
